Article: U.S. Holiday Season Online Spending Reaches 13.8 Billion Dollars

Americans spent a total of 13.8 billion U.S. dollars online during the 2001 holiday shopping season -- the eight weeks in November and December, according to areport jointly released Monday by three agencies.

Preliminary results reveal that online spending grew 15 percentover the previous holiday season, with consumers reporting that 13percent of their holiday shopping budget was spent online, said the report by market research firm Harris Interactive, investment banking firm Goldman Sachs and audience measurement service Nielsen/NetRatings.
