Article: Thai Coalition Partner Votes to Merge with Ruling Thai Rak Thai

The New Aspiration Party (NAP),a member of Thailand's coalition government, Thursday voted to merge with the ruling Thai Rak Thai (TRT) party of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, the local press reported.

The NAP held an extraordinary meeting, in which the NAP's 234 eligible voters including four cabinet ministers and 31 members ofthe Lower House voted by 149 to 84 to dissolve the party and mergewith Thai Rak Thai.

The party's founder and leader Chavalit Yongchaiyudh, who serves as deputy prime minister and defense minister, told reporters after the meeting, "We will merge with Thai Rak Thai without any conditions."
