the Sri Lankan government expressed on Monday its grave concern
over the deterioration of the security situation in the Middle East
and called for a halt tothe violence and the resumption of
negotiations on a political settlement to the conflict between
Palestine and Israel.
The foreign ministry said in a statement that Sri Lanka sees real
opportunities for establishment of a viable peace do exist inthe
Middle East following the adoption of a United Nations Security
Council resolution on the worsening situation in the region.
