As recently as 1997, the LPGA tour included no South Korean
players. With the LPGA Championship beginning here Thursday at Bulle
Rock, not only are 32 South Koreans, including seven rookies this
season, playing full time on the tour, but with increasing frequency,
they're winning.
This past week, 20-year-old rookie Seon Hwa Lee won the ShopRite
Classic in southern New Jersey. The week before, 27-year-old Hee Won
Han prevailed at the Corning Classic in Upstate New York.
Six South Korean players have won the first 13 tournaments on the
2006 schedule, and South Koreans have won 13 of the last 34 tour
events. Seven of the LPGA's top 20 money winners are from South
Korea, and more apparently are ...
