The second big planting of the garden season-whether you plan to
have a fall or winter garden or not-must be the midsummer planting.
It is also the first big harvest time. Two dilemmas that often face
the gardener this time of the year are where to plant and what to
plant. The first dilemma is more of a problem than the second.
Examine every available space in your garden, and make note of
crops that are just about ready to be pulled. For example, broccoli
production begins to dwindle now and will come to a halt in a matter
of a few weeks, if not days. That's when you'll be pulling out spent
plants to make room for something new.
But don't wait until plants completely stop producing ...
