Article: Patent Applications Increase in Singapore

Patent applications filed in Singapore increased to 8,594 items in 2001, up 11 percent comparedwith the 7,720 items filed in the previous year, according to the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) Wednesday.

IPOS Director General Liw Woon Yin affirmed at a press conference Wednesday that about 90 percent of the patent applications were filed by foreigners and 7,569 of the patent applications were registered or received certificates of grant in 2001, registering a 48 percent growth over the year 2000.
