Article: Hong Kong SFC Releases Hedge Funds Guidelines

The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) of Hong Kong Thursday released the Hedge Funds Guidelines and the related Consultation Conclusions to allow the retail public to invest in hedge funds.

The guidelines will be incorporated into the Code on Unit Trusts and Mutual Funds as Chapter 8.7. With the Hedge Funds Guidelines in place, the SFC expects that the Hong Kong public canstart buying hedge funds by the third quarter of this year.

In publishing the results of the public consultation on the Hedge Fund Guidelines that ended last December, the SFC said an overwhelming majority of respondents supported the proposal to allow hedge funds to be marketed to the public in Hong Kong.
