Article: First World Urban Forum Opens in Kenya

The first session of the World Urban Forum Opened here Monday at the headquarters of the U.N. Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat).

The forum which attracted more than 600 representatives from governments, civil societies and slums from over 70 countries worldwide is a "path-breaking global initiatives to address the main challenge of this century, the transition to an urban world",said UN- Habitat Executive Director Anna Tibaijuka at the opening session.

She said that in 1950, two-thirds of all people on the earth lived in the countryside, but by 2050, two-thirds of them will be at home in the city.
