Libya offers to host seat of African Union

LUSAKA, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Libya has built what it calls an " African Union village" in anticipation of hosting the seat of the new organization to be launched next week as the successor of the Organization of African Unity (OAU).

Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa said here Saturday that the village, which he toured recently, comprises a conference center and offices.

Mwanawasa, the outgoing chairman of the OAU, was briefing journalists shortly before the assembly of African heads of state and government in South Africa next week.
