France, Belgium pull out of Miss World Contest in Nigeria

LAGOS, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- As the Miss World contest is approaching, two more countries, France and Belgium, have announced to pull out of the competition in protest against a Sharia death sentence by stoning passed on Ms. Amina Lawal convicted of adultery, local newspaper This Day reported Saturday.

"The Miss France Committee is joining the protests against Nigeria, which condemns women to death for adultery," Genervieve de Fontenay, head of the Miss France Committee, was quoted as saying. "These sentences are barbaric and unacceptable," Fontenay added.
