Rwandan genocide suspect transferred to ICTR

DAR ES SALAAM, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Jean-Baptiste Gatete, a suspect in the 1994 Rwandan genocide, has been transferred to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) based in the northern Tanzanian city of Arusha, an ICTR press release said Tuesday.

Gatete was arrested on Sept. 11 by the Congolese authorities acting on an arrest warrant issued by the ICTR, the first arrest of an ICTR suspect to be effected in the Republic of Congo. The transfer was made last weekend.
