African leaders urge fresh support for revitalizing Africa's development

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- African leaders including 10 heads of state and government on Monday urged the United Nations and rich countries to give fresh support for a home-grown program to revitalize development in Africa.

The 57th session of the UN General Assembly Monday interrupted the current general debate to hold an all-day special session to discuss how the UN and the international community can support theprogram, called the New Partnership for Africa's Development, or NEPAD, launched last year.
