Canberra asks UN to list Jemaah Islamiyah as terrorist

CANBERRA, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Australian Prime Minister John Howard said Tuesday his government would ask the United Nations to have the Indonesian Islamic organization Jemaah Islamiyah added to the list of terrorist groups.

He said his government will be moving "to have Jemaah Islamiyah listed as a terrorist organization in the UN as soon as possible," according to the Australian Associated Press.

He said there was "mounting evidence of al-Qaeda involvement together with Jemaah Islamiyah, in the attack" in Bali.

Since 9.11 terrorist attacks, Australia has been insisting to crack down on Jemaah Islamiyah, the Islamic community.
