Asia to launch 2nd "decade for disabled persons"BANGKOK, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Asia-Pacific nations will launch the second "decade for disabled persons: 2003-2012," a region-wide campaign to promote the rights of those disabled, at a upcoming meeting, a UN regional arm said here Monday.

"Governments in the region have decided to extend the 'decade for disabled persons: 1993-2002' for another 10 years and this will be formally announced at a high-level intergovernmental meeting to conclude the first decade between Oct. 25 and 28 in Shiga, Japan," UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Executive-Secretary Kim Hak-Su told a press conference here.
