Indonesian wildfires blamed for global warming

LONDON, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- New research has shown that the forest fires, which ravaged Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia, five years ago, caused a massive increase in levels of greenhouse gases which cause global warming.

Most of the carbon dioxide caused by the wildfires did not come from burnt trees but from smoldering deposits of peat, said a report carried in the latest issue of British science journal Nature to be published on Thursday.
