Roundup: Republicans, Democrats fight for Congress control in midterm election

WASHINGTON, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- As US voters are to go to the polls in midterm elections on Nov. 5, control of the narrowly divided House of Representatives and Senate is at stake.

All the 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 34 of the 100 Senate seats will be up for grabs. In addition, 36 of the 50 governors are up for reelection.

At present, the Senate breakdown is 49 Republicans, 49 Democrats and one independent. And one seat vacancy was created by the death of Democratic Senator Paul Wellstone in a recent plane crash in Minnesota.
