CAIRO, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- The following are economic briefs from Middle East countries.

ABU DHABI -- The total value of the non-oil foreign trade in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) surged from 129.7 billion dirhams (35.4 billion US dollars) in 2000 to 151 billion dirhams (41.2 billion dollars) in 2001.

The Ministry of Planning said in a release the non-oil exports in 2001 increased to 2 billion dollars from 1.9 billion dollars in 2000.

UAE's imports in 2001 hit 30.5 billion dollars, while in 2000, it was 27.2 billion dollars in 2000, the release added.
