Avis sets up car rental joint venture in China

SHANGHAI, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Avis, a transnational car rental company, has set up its first joint venture in China.

Co-funded by local auto manufacturer Shanghai Automotive Industry (Group) Corporation (SAIC), the Anji Car Rental Company Ltd. involves a total investment of 66 million US dollars and will start operation on Jan. 1, 2003.

The joint venture aims to set up over 70 outlets in major Chinese cities and provide more personalized services by teaming up with major Chinese airline companies, travel agencies and banks.
