Serena Williams pulls out of State Farm Classic tournament

WASHINGTON, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Defending champion Serena Williams pulled out of the WTA State Farm Classic tennis tournament on Thursday, citing left knee unfitness.

The world No. one informed officials she could not play just an hour before the start of her rain delayed second round match against Alexandra Stevenson.

The Australian Open champion's place in the draw will be filled by lucky loser Stephanie Foretz of France.
