Lethal injection to be practiced throughout Yunnan Province

KUNMING, March 1 (Xinhua) -- The Yunnan Provincial Higher People's Court announced here Saturday that, effective as of Saturday, lethal injection will be used in carrying out the death penalty throughout the province.

Yunnan, in south-west China, becomes the first province to officially carry out lethal injection death penalty, said Zhao Shijie, president of the court, adding that the move represents a milestone for the country's judicial administration.

According to Zhao, there are currently 99 countries in the world employing capital punishment, mainly through firing squads, hanging, beheading, electrocution, gas poisoning, ...
