Yangtze water level begins to rise

WUHAN, March 11 (Xinhua) -- The water level of the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River, China's longest river, has kept rising steadily since February due to increased rainfall on the upper reaches.

The water level and speed monitored at Yichang, where the gigantic Three Gorges water control project is being built, was 38. 7 meters and 3,900 cubic meters per second late February, said Chen Guiya, an official in charge of hydrological and meteorological forecasts with the Hydrological Bureau of the Yangtze River Water Resources Committee.
