More Turkish Cypriots apply for Cyprus passports

NICOSIA, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- There is an increase of application from Turkish Cypriots for passports of the Cyprus Republic, a local radio reported on Friday.

Cyprus' Interior Minister Andreas Panayiotou was quoted as saying "a flow of applications (from Turkish Cypriots) has widened over a short period" and the government has issued 1,200 passports to Turkish Cypriots over recent months.

It is believed that Cyprus' access to the European Union (EU) offer in Copenhagen late last year has played a role in Turkish Cypriots' increased interest in obtaining passports of the Cyprus
