Phnom Penh governor changed after anti-Thai riots

PHNOM PENH, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Phnom Penh municipal governor Chea Sophara was replaced by the newly appointed governor Kep Chutema for his partial responsibility in the recent anti-Thai riots in Phnom Penh, according to local reports here Tuesday.

The new governor served as governor of Takeo province, some 70 kilometers south of Phnom Penh, prior to the new appointment.

Chea Sophara was dismissed and appointed as the ambassador to Maynmar following a royal decree signed by King Norodom Sihanouk and announced by a state-run radio Tuesday morning.
