Indonesia can be better off without IMF: economist

JAKARTA, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's economy would expand stronger and the growth would even return to pre-crisis levels of around 7 percent by 2005 once the International Monetary Fund (IMF) gets its hands off Indonesia, an economist said.

Rizal Ramli, former Indonesian coordinating economic minister who leads the coalition of 35 economists calling for the discontinuance of IMF, called the government to stop taking assistance from the IMF soon.

"The sooner Indonesia parts with the IMF the better for the economy, because without the IMF means we have the flexibility to do a lot of things," he was quoted by The Jakarta Post newspaper ...
