New political party launched in Malawi

LUSAKA, April 2 (Xinhua) -- A new political party, the People's Progressive Movement (PPM), has been launched in Malawi's commercial capital Blantyre, the web version of Malawian newspaper The Nation reported on Tuesday.

Speaking during the launch Monday, the party's three cochairs businessman Jimmy Koreia-Mpatsa, senior lawyer Temwa Nyirenda and another businessman Knox Valerawith promised to "liberate the country from economic woes" and bring a new generation of leadership based on integrity.

They said the party's vision is to transform the country where people "are truly empowered and can enjoy a rewarding quality life. "
