Indonesian VP: military operation in Aceh is last resort
JAKARTA, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian Vice President Hamzah Haz
said here Tuesday that military operation should be regarded as the
last resort in Aceh if all means to seek peace settlement with the
separatist Free Aceh Movement (GAM) failed.
"Military operation is the last resort if people want it. Don't
regard it as a government's proactive approach toward an offensive
action," he was quoted by Detikcom online news service as saying.
He said that if the GAM agrees to negotiate, the government will
need no military operation.
