French president to visit Thailand

BANGKOK, May 14 (Xinhua) -- French President Jacques Chirac has accepted an invitation from Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to visit Thailand in the near future, according to a report of Thai News Agency (TNA) Wednesday.

Thaksin told reporter in Paris that the French President had accepted his invitation and will become the first French president to visit the kingdom.

The French leader also pledged to support Thailand as a regional economic center, and was pleased that France and Thailand would become strategic partners, said the Thai premier.
