Turkish Cypriot regime rejects EU aid package

NICOSIA, June 5 (Xinhua) -- The Turkish Cypriot regime on Thursday rejected the recently unveiled EU aid package for fear it may play into the hands of the Greek Cypriot-controlled government.

Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash in a statement dismissed the EU aid as an attempt to bring Turkish Cypriots in the north under the Greek Cypriot administration in the south.

The European Union on Tuesday announced the package worth 12 million euros (14 million US dollars) to Turkish Cypriots, who are relatively poor compared with Greek Cypriots.
