ESCAP revises down forecast growth for developing countries in Asia-Pacific

SINGAPORE, April 17 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations' Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) regional survey for 2003 has revised down forecast growth for developing countries in the region to 5.0 per cent from 5.4 percent due to the impact of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and the aftermath of the war in Iraq.

The survey said that ESCAP region performed well in 2002 and growth for 2003 in the region is still expected to easily outpace the rest of the world and to be led by China.
