World's largest meat company reports increase in earnings

WASHINGTON, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Tyson Foods Inc., the world's largest meat company, reported Monday that there was a nearly 11 percent increase in its earnings over the past three months.

The company's profit for the three months ending March 29 was 72 million dollars, or 20 cents per share, up from a profit of 65 million dollars, or 18 cents per share, a year earlier.

But the gain in earnings was largely due to a 94 million dollars gain related to a settlement of litigation over alleged price-fixing for vitamins in animal feed, said a media report Monday

Tyson would otherwise have reported a profit of just 3 cents per share ...
