Nikkei index reaches 8,000 line

TOKYO, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks jumped Tuesday, with the key Nikkei index topping the 8,000 line for the first time since April 9.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average surged 176.37 points, or 2. 23 percent, to close at 8,083.56.

The broader Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX) of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) climbed 16.79 points, or 2.09 percent, to 821.41.

Stocks ended the morning at an intraday high of 8,133.34 as international blue chips drew strong buying following a three-day advance in the US Nasdaq market, brokers said.
