Armed violence paralyzes business activities in southern Nigeria

LAGOS, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Business activities had been paralyzed abruptly in oil-rich Warri in Nigeria's southern state of Delta following the invasion of the area by a suspected Ijaw militia group, a military source said Saturday.

The invasion in an attempt to disrupt Saturday's state assembly election started Friday but aborted by the combined team of the Nigerian Navy, Army and Police personnel, added the source.

According to the source, the security team had been on red alert since Thursday night in their effort to contain the group.
