Security Council condemns attack on UN compound in eastern DRC

UNITED NATIONS, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Security Council on Friday strongly condemned attacks on a UN mission compound in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which remains under the siege of attackers.

In a statement, Council President Munir Akram called on all warring parties in the eastern DRC to immediately cease aggression and acts of violence, especially against the civilians and the UN peacekeeping mission.

Akram said the council will meet again Monday to discuss the situation in the DRC and to decide on effective measures to stop the violence.
