Leonardo da Vinci's maps back in Italy for show

ROME, June 20 (Xinhua) -- A series of maps displaying Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci's cartography talents are back on Italian soil for exhibition for the first time in 500 years.

The five maps, completed by Leonardo da Vinci in 1503, were greeted by a police escort on arriving in Italian Pisa's airport ahead of a new exhibition that opens in Arezzo Friday entitled Leonardo, Genio E Cartografo (Leonardo, Genius and Cartographer).

The papers, which belong to the British royal family's collection of 600 Leonardo da Vinci's drawings, are usually housed at the Royal Library at Windsor.
