Brazilian gov't backs Olympic candidacy of Rio de Janeiro

RIO DE JANEIRO, July 7 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian government will back the candidacy of the city of Rio de Janeiro to organize the 2012 Olympic Games, Monday revealed Sports Minister Agnelo Queiroz.

The official affirmed that for now there only exists one candidacy, "that of Brazil," and anticipated the governmental intention to invest 46.4 million US dollars for the 2007 Panamerican Games that will take place in Rio de Janeiro.
