Trade union leader killed in northern Colombia

BOGOTA, July 23 (Xinhua) -- A hospital trade union leader in the northern Colombian city of Barranquilla was shot dead on Wednesday by unknown gunmen, trade union sources said. Xinhua

Carlos Barrero, 50, left his hospital on Wednesday morning when two gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fired on him, said Gilberto Martinez, vice president of the National Association of Hospital and Clinic Workers.

He added that the identity of the assassins was unknown, but they were "dark forces" operating in Barranquilla, 700 km north of the capital.
