Iraqi refugees leaving Iran for home

TEHRAN, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- About 400 Iraqi families leave Iran for home per day across the border along Iran's western Ilam Province, the official IRNA news agency reported on Tuesday.

The border checkpoint of Mehran, 70 kilometer south of the provincial capital city of Ilam, officially opened on June 24 to facilitate Iraqi refugees' leaving for home.

Iran has provided shelters to a total of over 200,000 Iraqi refugees who fled their country since the gulf war in 1991.
