Turkey bids for UN Security Council membership

ANKARA, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Turkey has put forward its candidacy for UN Security Council membership in 2009-2010 after an interval of nearly half a century, the Anatolia News Agency reported on Sunday.

Turkey voiced its desire during the UN Economic and Social Council meetings and it also informed UN authorities concerned of its desire, the report said.

According to the UN procedures, verbal expression is enough for UN Security Council candidacy.
