Article: Lethal loads of sea lice killing wild fish - claim

A Leading opponent of salmon farms said yesterday that Canadian research findings offered proof that sea lice from the sites could kill off wild fish.

The findings of the study were published in this week's edition of US journal Science. Researchers found that sea lice from farmed salmon would cause several populations of one species of salmon in British Columbia to plummet by 99% within eight years. Don Staniford, European representative for the Pure Salmon Campaign, said: "This study backs up what scientists in Scotland, Norway and Ireland have been documenting for the past decade. ...
