Once upon a time art fairs were modest,
trade-only affairs, with most galleries rather sheepish at having
to ask their artists to provide work for such a drearily commercial
context. No longer. In today's booming market, the art fair has now
taken centre-stage as a glamorous, career-launching crucible for
artistic talent, and nowhere is this more evident than at
Art Basel Miami Beach where for five intense days the
international art world - and its increasingly numerous hangers-on -
turns out in force to show, to see and to be seen. ABMB may be only
five years old, but it is established as a crucial fixture on the
art world calendar, the groovier younger sister of the prestigious
Art Basel ...
