Torbay Recorded Music Society's penultimate session before the
Christmas break featured chairman John Davis, who gave a spirited
presentation centred upon a musician who spanned the major part of
the 20th century music scene: Leopold Stokowski.
Conductor, composer and pioneer, his larger-than-life personality
and essentially romantic approach, where (quoting an old saying)
'Life was twopenny-coloured rather than penny plain', captured
everyone's imagination.
John, a Stokowski Society member and journal contributor, gave an
enthusiastic account of Stokowski's music-world contribution, not
least orchestral arrangements of piano, organ and chamber music.
