Most minors will need permission from a parent or court to have an abortion under a new California law, versions of which other states have struck down as unconstitutional.

Gov. George Deukmejian (R) announced Sunday that he had signed the bill, which will require that an unemancipated minor, typically under 18, have permission from a parent, guardian or court to obtain an abortion, except in a medical emergency.
