CAMBRIDGE - One of the year's most important music stories belongs to Vampire Weekend, the Columbia University-bred rock band that played the Middle East Downstairs on Saturday night. Formed by four twentysomethings smitten with world influences - and specifically with the Soweto sound made famous by Paul Simon's "Graceland" - Vampire Weekend has not yet released a full-length record. One is planned for February; in the meantime, there is an EP and a handful of online recordings.
