Charles Ernest Loucks, 92, a retired Army major general who had
been deputy chief chemical officer of the Army and commander of the
Army Chemical Center at Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland, died of heart
ailments Dec. 16 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
Gen. Loucks, who lived in Arlington, made his career in the Army
Chemical Corps. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1917 and
retired in 1955. His decorations included the Distinguished Service
Medal, the Legion of Merit and the Army Commendation Medal.
A crack shot, he was designated a "distinguished rifleman" and
was a member of various Army rifle teams over the years. He competed
