Roger K. Fredericks, a retired master chief petty officer in the
Coast Guard, died of pulmonary fibrosis July 24 at Southern Maryland
Hospital Center. He lived in Temple Hills.
For 24 years, Mr. Fredericks served in Washington, San Francisco,
Hawaii, Worcester, Mass., and Groton, Conn. During World War II, he
worked in the District in the Merchant Marine division, tracking
missing and sunken merchant vessels in coastal waters. Later in the
war, he became a court reporter at Coast Guard safety and board of
inquiry hearings.
After retiring from the Coast Guard in 1966, he worked for the
federal Office of Economic Opportunity and then for the commission
on government procurement, as its chief ...
