Rep. Kenny Hulshof, our own hometown Republican in Congress, has
wound up in an enviable position on the burgeoning ethics issue. He
is one of the few members in his party clearly on record against
former Speaker Tom DeLay.
He and Rep. Joel Hefley, R-Colo, are sponsoring an ethics reform
bill. Hefley, the chairman of the House Ethics Committee, and
committee member Hulshof were kicked off the panel after favoring
investigation into DeLay's alleged connection with suspect
fundraising groups. Later, DeLay was indicted on money-laundering
charges and had to resign his House leadership post.
So now Hulshof and Hefley, moving carefully to avoid stepping on
too many colleague toes, propose reforms ...
