Article: TRIBUNE COLUMN Pujols hits sweet spot with amazing accuracy

Albert Pujols' stunning six-year major league baseball career has prompted many old-time baseball men to rank him among the top half dozen hitters of all time.

Consider a few of his numbers. He hit 201 home runs in his first five years, reaching 200 homers faster than anyone in major league history. His five-year batting average was .332. He led National League hitters with a .359 mark in 2003 and averaged 591 at-bats in that half-decade. He drove in 621 runs and missed 20 games in those five years. He was the National League Rookie of the Year in 2001 and Most Valuable Player in 2005. In his first five years, Pujols never has been lower than fourth in MVP voting.
