Country music rebel Hank Williams III returns to The Blue Note on
Saturday with his band, Assjack. The descendent of country legends
Hank Sr. and Hank Jr. creates his own sound by merging old-school
country blues with Southern rock, always eschewing - sometimes
outspokenly - the contemporary country scene offered by Nashville
with its slick production and pop tendencies.
Described as "100 percent pure hellbilly," Hank III's music is the
sum of his parts. Born in 1972 in Nashville, he got started in music
playing the drums in punk rock bands. Hank III went on to perform
with his father and, through the magic of digital recording, his long
