A more aggressive Michael Tan has emerged in this election for the
Columbia Board of Education, and he doesn't plan to "just be status
quo" if elected.
"I want people to trust me," he said. "I will make good, informed
decisions. That doesn't mean rubber-stamping everything the
administration puts before me."
Tan is making his second run for the post in as many years. This
time he faces incumbent board President Karla DeSpain and Jan Mees, a
former Hickman High School media specialist.
Tan has been spending the past couple of weeks meeting with
parents and gathering information from central office staff.
