UM search envisions `large' field Candidates prefer confidentiality; consultant advises secrecy needed.

The University of Missouri Board of Curators would like to compile a short list of finalists for president in the next month.

In that time frame, the board and executive search consultant Jerry Baker plan to pick the top candidates and meet with them. The curators will decide on three to five finalists, perhaps by the end of May.

At an organizational meeting of the UM Presidential Search Advisory Committee yesterday, Baker described the current pool of nominees as quite broad, including candidates from higher education as well as business and government leaders.

"We have very talented men and women from a whole variety of sectors," Baker said.
